Ahmednagar Hospital Fire: Death toll rises to 14

In the incident that occurred earlier this month, 11 elderly people who were being treated for COVID-19 in the intensive care unit (ICU) that caught fire, died in the tragedy. One more death then occurred on November 17.

The death toll in the Ahmednagar civic hospital fire incident, which occurred on November 6, has now reached 14.

This development came after two more deaths of the victims were reported on November 19 and 22, respectively.

In the tragedy that occurred earlier this month, 11 elderly people who were being treated for COVID-19 in the intensive care unit (ICU) that caught fire, died. One more death then occurred on November 17.

The patients who died on November 19 and on Monday, November 22, were in a serious condition ever since the fire incident happened. They were shifted for treatment, but could not survive, said doctors.

According to reports, the deceased have been identified as Rambabai Vidhate, who was 70-years old, died on Monday, and Godabai Sasane, who died on November 19, was also 70-years old.

However, the hospital authority did not provide information on the number of patients that are still serious.

A total of 21 elderly people were there in the ward when the incident happened.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on November 7, said that the state government will allocate funds for fire safety audits in all district hospitals. In addition, the Maharashtra government will also work towards creating a post of 'fire safety officer' in each of these facilities, Tope added.
