The final report into the Air India AI-171 crash is expected to be released in the first week of October, even as the Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has sought a technical hearing before the investigation is concluded.

The pilots’ body has approached the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), requesting an opportunity to present its technical and operational inputs before the final findings are prepared.

The FIP has proposed that a structured technical interaction be held by September 15. The association said the request is intended to ensure that relevant expertise from professional pilots is considered during the investigation and is not aimed at influencing the independent probe.

The pilots’ body has sought discussions on several technical aspects of the crash investigation, including simulator testing and reconstruction, flight-data analysis, cockpit systems, human factors, crew performance, warning systems, maintenance records and standard operating procedures.

It has also sought cross-verification of information from the aircraft’s flight recorder, cockpit voice recorder, air traffic control records and maintenance logs.

The request comes after the Union government assured the Supreme Court that inputs from the Federation of Indian Pilots would be considered during the investigation.

The FIP has also referred to international aviation investigation practices, arguing that inputs from experienced aviation professionals can help strengthen the technical assessment and improve aviation safety.

Air India flight AI-171, operating from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after take-off on June 12, 2025, killing 260 people. With the investigation approaching its final stage, the FIP is now seeking an opportunity to present its technical observations before the AAIB submits its final report.
