A 48-year-old commuter died after allegedly being pushed from a moving suburban local train between Bandra and Mahim stations in Mumbai on Thursday afternoon. The incident took place inside the coach reserved for passengers with disabilities, prompting the Bandra Government Railway Police (GRP) to launch an investigation.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred at around 1.24 pm as a Churchgate-Borivali slow local (Train No. 90467) was approaching Bandra. Passengers in coach 1508C reportedly alerted railway authorities after a man was allegedly pushed from the moving train.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and the Bandra GRP reached the area near kilometre 14/03 between Bandra and Mahim stations. They found the injured passenger unconscious and immediately shifted him to Bhabha Hospital at around 2.45 pm. However, doctors could not save him and he was declared dead during treatment.

The deceased has been identified in reports as 63-year-old Cajetan Pries, although some initial accounts have described the victim differently. Police are continuing to verify the circumstances and details surrounding the incident.

The GRP detained a fellow passenger identified as Amjad Safaruddin Sheikh, 48. During preliminary questioning, Sheikh reportedly gave police an account that he was trying to drive away a crow he believed had entered the compartment and that the victim was pushed during the incident. Police are investigating his statement and the circumstances that led to the passenger falling from the moving train.

The Bandra GRP is expected to register a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A forensic team has also been called to examine the location, while railway police officials have visited the scene as part of the investigation.

Third Mumbai Local Train Murder Linked to Passenger Dispute This Year

The incident is particularly concerning as it follows two other reported cases of commuters allegedly being killed after disputes with fellow passengers on Mumbai's suburban railway network this year.

In January, college teacher Alok Kumar Singh was allegedly killed following an argument with co-passenger Omkar Shinde over an issue related to getting off at Malad station.

In June, 21-year-old clothing retail employee Mayank Lohar was allegedly killed after an argument with fellow passenger Roshan Suvarna over closing a train compartment door during heavy rain.

The latest incident has once again raised concerns over passenger safety and the escalation of seemingly minor disputes on Mumbai's crowded suburban trains. The Bandra GRP investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as police examine witness statements and forensic evidence.
