With COVID-19 cases showing an upward trend once again, the Pune administration on Friday, March 12, decided to bring back stricter restrictions to prevent the situation from going out of control. Though, a night curfew from 11 pm to 6 am is already in place in Pune.

The decision was taken at a weekly review meeting held today, March 12, attended by other ministers and district administrations. Ajit Pawar, who is the guardian minister for Pune, chaired the meeting.

This development comes a day after the city reported 2,840 new coronavirus cases.

During a high-level meeting, it was decided that schools in Pune will remain shut till March 31. Education department can give some exemptions to students of Class X and Class XII. A decision to whether to open the schools or not after the said date will be taken later depending on the situation.

However, MPSC, UPSC coaching classes and libraries can function at 50 per cent capacity.

Moreover, the officials stated that for now there is no need for a complete lockdown in the city.

Besides, malls, hotels and cinema halls can operate till 10 pm only. Home delivery has been allowed till 11 pm. Only five people will be allowed at a stall at a given time.

Restaurants and bars will be required to display a board at the entrance giving information about total seating capacity, 50 per cent seating capacity and seats occupies presently. Violators may face FIRs, cash penalties as well cancellations of licenses.

Public gardens can open for morning hours but will remain shut in the evening.

More than 50 guests will not be allowed for functions (marriages, religious functions, other social gatherings) held at closed premises and 100 for open premises such as lawns.

Meanwhile, the civic body official stated that it is all prepared to tackle the situation as far as healthcare facilities are concerned.
