Amazon will not accept INR 2000 notes for COD orders from September 19

In compliance with the guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), e-commerce giant Amazon has announced that it will stop accepting INR 2,000 notes as payment for cash on delivery (COD) orders from September 19, 2023. The RBI had earlier announced the withdrawal of India's highest denomination INR 2,000 notes in May. However, it gave time till September 30, 2023 to return these banknotes to the banking system.

As per information provided in Amazon's FAQs, from September 19, 2023, it will no longer accept these notes as payment for cash on delivery (COD) orders or cash loads as per the Reserve Bank of India directive issued on May 19, 2023. It is mandatory accordingly. Customers are advised to check the product detail page for any COD limits added at the cart level before placing their order.


Amazon also clarified that from September 19, 2023, they will not accept INR 2,000 notes for cash load or cash on delivery (COD) payments for orders fulfilled by Amazon. RBI set September 30, 2023 as the deadline to return INR 2,000 notes as deposits or exchange within the banking system.
