Andheri tops the list of COVID-19 hotspot areas in Mumbai

According to reports, in Mumbai’s western suburb, Andheri tops the list of active COVID-19 cases, with the number of patients in the area reaching 91,262 so far, while 1,764 patients have lost their lives due to the coronavirus.

Even though the daily count of active cases has witnessed a downward trend in Mumbai, the prevalence of coronavirus has not decreased in some areas of the city.

According to reports, in Mumbai’s western suburb, Andheri tops the list of active COVID-19 cases, with the total number of patients in the area reaching 91,262 so far, while 1,764 patients have lost their lives due to coronavirus.

The Mumbai Municipal Corporation is taking war-level measures to control this number of patients.

Moreover, civic officials are still worried about the increase in cases in Mumbai’s slums including Dharavi, Worli, Koliwada and Ganpat Patil Nagar.

However, in the second wave of coronavirus, more than 85 per cent of cases been detected in high rise buildings and societies. As a result, non-compliance with the rules of multi-storey buildings has become an issue for the municipality to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Besides, the number of patients has also increased in Dharavi, Worli, Byculla, Grant Road, Borivali, Kandivali, Malad in the western suburbs of Mumbai, whereas, Govandi, Mankhurd and Mulund in the eastern suburbs are hotspots. Therefore, by increasing the number of tests in these areas, emphasis was being laid on the isolation of the victims.

The total number of active patients in Mumbai is 6.82 lakhs. Out of which 91,262 patients are in Andheri.

At present, 42,278 patients are detected in Andheri East and 48,984 patients in Andheri West.

Moreover, 81,723 patients in Andheri have been discharged. Of these, 37,510 are from the east sector and 44,213 are from the west.

Meanwhile, 747 patients have died in the western region and 1,017 in the eastern region. At present, 7,478 patients are undergoing treatment in Andheri. On average, 150 to 160 new patients are detected every day.

Buildings sealed in Mumbai

Once a coronavirus infected patient is found in a society, the BMC seals the building or floor locked according to the number of patients. Accordingly, more than 135 buildings and 945 floors of buildings in Andheri (West) are sealed currently.
