Now, Punekars will have to pay more for travel as the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) of Pune division has decided to revise the rates for minimum autorickshaw fare.

The revised fare will be effective from November 22 in Baramati, besides Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Earlier in October, RTA had approved an increase in fares by INR 2 for the first 1.5 km and INR 1 for every km thereafter. The decision, which was to come into effect from November 8. Later, this was then put on hold.

However, now, fares have been increased by INR 3 for the first 1.5 km and INR 2 for every km thereafter

The minimum fare for first 1.5km will be INR 21 instead of INR 18 and thereafter, INR 14 every kilometre instead of INR 12.31.

With this, it will be mandatory for autorickshaw drivers to change the meter setting as per the new rates. The rickshaw fare has been increased after almost six years.

Rickshaw unions have been demanding a hike in the fare rates since the fuel prices for the past few weeks.

In Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, 25 per cent more fare will be charged for rickshaws between midnight, 12 am and 5 am. Elsewhere in the district, rickshaws will have to pay 40 per cent more during the same period.
