The 'Bharat bandh' called by the Bahujan Kranti Morcha and other organizations on January 29, 2020, does not seem to have any significant effect in Mumbai. The participants of the protest have raised voice against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Population Register (NPR), and keeping the same in mind, officials have tightened the security across several parts of the city.

Activists of the Bahujan Kranti Morcha planned a 'rail roko' and tried to stop the trains while protesting on a railway track at Kanjurmarg Station in Mumbai. As per a senior Central Railway official, the ‘rail roko’ protest saw 150 people gathering on the railway tracks at 7.55 am, on the slow railway line towards CSMT. Officials then took action and moved the protesters from the tracks, resuming the services at 8.16 am. The services on CR were affected but officials had taken full precautions. It now seems that the locals are now running as per schedule.

Similar activity was seen in Bandra where rickshaw drivers participated in the protest for some time but ground reports suggest that there is no sign of protestors now.

This protest has also got the support from other organizations that have been opposing the NRC-CAA and several states have made strict security arrangements. Police is on alert in many states and respective departments have been alerted across many districts. Special surveillance has been directed in sensitive areas. So far the protests are being carried out peacefully all across the country including in Mumbai.
