The city has been shaken by the recent Kamala Mills fire incident and due to the tragedy, the people, activists, and authorities have raised a question against the BMC and governance regarding the safety in the city. Further, the local municipal officials have taken immediate actions by demolishing the illegal constructions across Mumbai.

Tightening the arrangements for the new year celebrations and keeping the safety in mind with priority, Mumbai Police has decided to ban the use of flying lanterns (Chinese lanterns) in the city, till January 22, 2017. For the last few years, the trend of flying these lanterns in the sky has gained popularity especially on the occasion of New Year's Eve, but this comes to a halt for the next few days, so much so that the police can take strict action against the people who have deposited the same.

Further, based on the reports from the respective intelligence department, Mumbai Police has also made adequate security arrangements and traffic police have been asked to keep a strict note of parking and other violations in the city.
