On Sunday, the Maharashtra government asked its departments to not use sanitisation domes, rooms or tunnels that spray disinfectants on people. Some departments such as the Mumbai Police were using these methods with the view that it would help in containing the spread of COVID-19. The health officials stated that the practice must be stopped as there is no scientific evidence to show its effectiveness.

State health department director Dr Archana Patil directed all departments not to use such domes or tunnels after they receiving the communication from the Centre.

"These disinfectant-spraying rooms, domes and tunnels were replicated by several government departments, including at police stations, without application of mind. There is no scientific evidence that it is effective. The Centre has now come clear on it, after which these instructions were issued," an official told LiveMint.

In the state, Maharashtra Police had deployed the first-ever sanitisation van, Sanjivani at Pune. After which, Mumbai Police had also deployed a mobile sanitisation van to ensure that the officials were not infected while they were on duty. The police personnel would step into the van and a liquid would be sprayed on them. In just ten seconds, a police officer would be able to come out and get back to work.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) had also directed its depots to prepare sanitisation vehicles using its buses. A 'sanitiser machine' was prepared by the ST Corporation employees at its Nehru Nagar workshop which is located in Kurla.

Inside the bus, a rotating sanitising machine has been installed which disinfects the employees once they go inside. To make way for the machine, all the seats have been temporarily removed. The ST employee enters via the front door, then the machine sprays disinfectant on him and later, they exit via the back door.
