On Tuesday, the Election Commission proclaimed polls to Legislative Council seats from the local authorities constituencies in four states that include Maharashtra on December 10, highlighted reports.

The biennial elections would be held in six Maharashtra Legislative Council seats from five constituencies. This includes two from Mumbai. The said activity is being conducted since the terms of the sitting members have either ended or are slated to end in January and February. Based on the schedule, the results will be proclaimed on December 14.

According to reports, for the local authorities’ constituencies election, the commission has put down guidelines highlighted that if at least 75 per cent, of the local authorities in the local authorities’ constituency, are operating, additionally, at least 75 per cent of the electors from the total electoral of the constituency are available then the electoral will be considered available for the electing representatives to the legislative council.

It has been reported that the election process should be finished by December 16. Regulations regarding COVID-19 that were already proclaimed by the EC and the recent guidelines proclaimed by it should be adhered to.

The EC has said that the Model Code of Conduct regarding the said elections will come into effect immediately in the respective constituency. Chief secretaries of the states have also been told to depute a senior officer to see to it that the instructions concerning COVID-19 are followed when arrangements for the conduction of elections are made.
