Good news for all the people in Mumbai who love yoga, especially the ones who live in the Bandra or the closest vicinity. The city’s first yoga park by the sea is all set to be developed and opened by January 26, 2018.

In an event held on Thursday, BJP MLA Ashish Shelar, some corporators and residents inaugurated the one-acre open space for the park, which will be developed next to reclamation promenade.

Anbusivan Ranganathan will be the architect for the project, which is divided into two phases – the first costing about INR 1 crore. The funds for the project will be received through CSR. As per the reports, the first phase of the project will see posters of different yoga positions made on the walls near the embankment, after which many sculptures will be made and installed in the second phase.

Talking about the project and the plan, architect Ranganathan said, “The vertical greenery in phase 1 will also prevent soil erosion on the roadside and make it more stable. The garden will have a stormwater drain and a set-up to harvest rainwater, which will help control flooding and protect plants. “Since the garden is right next to the highway, it will be an iconic space and access to it will be regulated.”

This initiative is a part of “Bandra Entry Point Beautification” project. Creating a special area for a national flag post at Lands End and the beautification of MTNL building with murals are also included as a part of the project.

Residents also raised issues regarding lights and maintenance in the area, to which Shelar confirmed that the issues will be cleared with solutions in 2 weeks. Further, he also said that the open space was being misused earlier and now, after the yoga park, it will be used properly by the ones who want to practice yoga.
