BJP demands night shift for civic employees

BJP demands night shift for civic employees

After Shiv Sena’s epoch-making demand for revival of night life in the city, the state alliance partner – the BJP – has now demanded that the BMC administration should work even in nights. The party has given a reason of better civic facilities to the citizens if offices are run in night shifts.

It seems that the BJP has also started to take night life seriously though it had opposed the Sena proposal for revival of night life culture in Mumbai. After BJP MLA Amit Satam’s demand for allowing the market to function at night, party corporator Prakash Gangadhare has demanded that BMC offices should be kept open during nights to solve people’s problems. He also demanded that other departments should also work during night like the employees of water supply department and fire brigade.

The civic staffers work in the day shift that starts at 9 am and ends at 4 pm (another shift is from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm). Prakash Gangadhare has claimed that illegal construction activities and other civic issues are getting overlooked by the administration due to limited working hours. Hence, the work timing of civic employees should be divided in two or three shifts, he demanded.

Gangadhare has also said that citizens who reach late at home due to their working hours cannot pay the utility bills and hence civic offices collecting taxes should also be kept open in night shift. Special teams should be formed in various departments so that action against hawkers, water thieves and illegal construction activities can be taken, he added.
