The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has now set its sights on beautifying Dadar’s iconic Shivaji Park.

On Tuesday, October 31, Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale held a meeting with BMC officials at MNS chief Raj Thackeray's house to discuss the steps to be taken to stop the dust problem at Shivaji Park and to give a new look to the ground.

This development also came after the residents on Friday, October 27, held a sit-in protest demanding the removal of red soil that worsened air pollution and caused health hazards.

On the same day in the morning, he also visited the park where he made a string of announcements vis-à-vis its makeover.

Among these, the major one was setting up of smog towers in the park to allay the dust pollution that the loose red soil dumped caused.

According to Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale, soil was laid on the ground as part of BMC's Shivaji Park beautification project in 2021. The MP alleged that the soil was laid without applying any mind, hence the citizens had to face the problem of dust. The MP also said that a huge national flag would be installed in the park.

The civic officials announced that under this beautification, the park would be home to the tallest tricolour in the country to make the government’s Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations even grander.

He said that renovation of structures like Samarth Vyayamashala (Gym), Scout Guide Hall, renovation of seating arrangement, bringing water from Mahim Sewage Water Treatment Plant for maintaining and lighting the ground will also be done.

BMC is taking steps to make Shivaji Park dust free in the next two months. Loose soil will be removed and eight smog guns will also be installed on the grounds to knock down the dust. Apart from this, green grass will also be grown on the land to prevent soil erosion. Water will be sprinkled on the ground regularly from 12 am (midnight) to 4 am.
