Mithi River to be cleaned; the first phase of purification to cost ₹211 crore

The purification of Mithi river has been on the cards for a long time. Finally, the contract about the cleaning of Mithi under BMC and MMRDA will be handed over to an appointed company for the span of 15 years.

The process for the purification of Mumbai’s water provider, Mithi river, has begun and the first phase of the purification will cost around ₹211 crore. As per the project, initially, the cleansing of the 1.3 km stretch between Filterpada and Powai will be commenced. The dirty water and the waste from the latrines will be halted from entering the river and will be cleaned first before letting it enter Mithi.

The contract about the same will be handed over to an appointed company for the span of 15 years.

The purification of Mithi river will be conducted in four phases and the water will be cleansed in four stages. Under which, the area between Filterpada and Powai will be cleaned and all the sewers and gutters will be diverted to a filter centre where the water will be cleansed and later the water will be released in the river.

The project will be prior studied by Frischmann Prabhu, who will present a report after which the project will be handed to Infra Project, a company appointed for the purification plan. The company will clean the river under 15 years at the cost of ₹211 crore.
