While constructing a building on a plot of more than 10,000 square meters, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has imposed an obligation to develop 'Miyawaki Forest' on a part of it. It will be mandatory for developers to develop 'Miyawaki Forest' on 5 percent of the designated open area. In order to increase the green area in Mumbai which is slowly turning into a concrete forest, the BMC has decided to create Miyawaki forests on a large scale. According to this method of planting more trees in a very less space, the BMC has developed Miyawaki forests in many places in Mumbai. Now, the corporation wants Miyawaki forests to be developed in private complexes too. Park Superintendent Jitendra Pardeshi has expressed the belief that this decision will speed up environmental conservation. What is Miyawaki Forest?
Trees in Miyawaki forests grow faster as compared to normal forests. In the Miyawaki method, tree grows of the same height in half the time than it takes to grow in the traditional forest. Generally, these forests develop in two years. A dense forest is formed due to less distance between trees.
