The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has clarified that the proposed Central Park at Mahalaxmi Racecourse will not be used for commercial purposes. Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani stated that the space will remain a public green zone.
The planned park will span nearly 300 acres, combining land from the racecourse and adjoining coastal road areas. It is envisioned as a large, world-class open space for citizens.
Gagrani assured residents that there will be no commercial exploitation of the land. Only minimal user charges may be collected for basic facilities such as parking and restrooms.
The BMC has presented the plan to local residents to address concerns. The park design includes gardens, open lawns, sports and fitness zones, children’s play areas, and an amphitheatre, with a major focus on greenery.
Officials also said that any structures built will be limited in height and will not interfere with racecourse activities. The area will remain accessible to the public after development.
