Recently Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to arrange alternative transportation for travellers in Mumbai who may get stranded owing to incessant rainfall. In the aftermath of this, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal in a meeting on Thursday, July 14 asked civic officials to prepare SOP with the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) and Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), reports stated.

According to accounts, BEST will be running 400 extra buses and the MSRTC is considering operating 11 extra buses. Further, Chahal asked officials to offer first aid and other required assistance to travellers whenever needed if local train services are shut. Chahal instructed that if local train services are disrupted, the commuters should be moved to a safe place.

On the other hand, recently, Mihir Kotecha, BJP’s Mulund MLA met Chahal and asked him to address pothole complaints within 48 hours. Following this, the BMC Commissioner alerted the ward officers about the same. He also asked them to be vigilant and regularly visit the localities. Moreover, Chahal asked officials to explore other technology than the cold mix used to fill potholes in Mumbai, narratives cite.

Similarly, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the civic body to prioritise the safety of those residing in the  C1 category or extremely dangerous buildings in Mumbai. Therefore, Chahal asked officers to make temporary arrangements for residents of such buildings till the end of September. In addition to this, he asked the assistant municipal commissioners to get in regular touch with the area MPs and MLAs for enhanced emergency and civic services management.
