BMC demolishes 11 storey building, finally!

Masjid Bunder - After eight months of demolition drive, civic officials were successful in razing an 11-storey unauthorized structure on Keshavji Naik Road which lies between Sandhurst Road and Masjid stations. The demolition drive began in the month of June. As the structure was close to railway tracks, civic officials had asked railways NOC for demolition. “When we began the demolition, locals stopped us. Then we were expecting railways help but did not get any help. Still, we continued with the demolition and now we are happy that we completed our work,” said Uday Shirurkar, assistant commissioner, ward B.

Since the structure is located quite close to the railway tracks, civic officials have always feared that during the demolition work, slabs could fall on the tracks and affect train services and the safety of passengers.

“We are happy that the illegal structure was demolished but we are also scared that now our children got access to rail tracks,” said Rakesh More, resident.
