On Sunday night, in an unfortunate incident, a tree's branch fell at M G Road near Metro Cinema and one man lost his life while four others were injured. Of these four, Rajendra Singh (60) breathed his last on Monday.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had plans to cut this tree for road widening and had asked for objections and suggestions from residents. And the date for the submission of votes was June 30, 2018. However, before trimming the tree, the branch fell and killed two.

When the incident took place around 6:00 am, five people in total were injured. Amongst these, Parshuram Bastin (74) died on the spot while 60-year-old Rajendra Singh was critically injured. He was being treated at GT Hospital where he passed away on Monday.

We had undertaken the MG Road widening project for which we had to cut down many trees. We decided to cut down trees and sought permission from the BMC commissioner. However, the court had asked the latter not to take any decision. Due to this, we asked residents to register their objections and suggestions for the same,” Kiran Dighavkar, Assistant Commissioner, A Ward.
