The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to appoint a ‘reputation management’ agency to spread its message and schemes on social media.

This comes three months after the BMC floated tenders to appoint an agency, which will publicise its initiatives and programmes on social media platforms, and also to interact with citizens on their grievances.

Currently, the civic body is present on all social media platforms, however, these handles are not active when it comes to interacting with the public on civic issues. Moreover, apart from the main Twitter handle, there are 24 accounts of administrative wards across the city.

Therefore, the civic body has finalised Sunjeet Communications Pvt Ltd for the same and a proposal to this effect will be tabled before the Standing Committee. The firm will be paid INR 1.29 crores a year for the work it will do for the BMC.

The agency will provide 28 staff including digital PR assistants, videographers, photographers, commercial artists who will handle the social media platforms round-the-clock.

The existing social media handles are managed by the staff of MAHA-IT, a government of Maharashtra enterprises.

The tenders were floated in October, the BMC received three bidders, of whom Sunjeet Communications emerged as the winner.

The opposition in the BMC slammed the move, saying money needs to be spent on road repairs and maintaining other amenities.
