Waste Management in Mumbai has always been a huge concern and all the garbage enters the sea through the nullahs. As the waste is not processed and treated, it poses a great threat to marine life.

To improve this situation, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has introduced 'trash broom' which is a net attached to the end of the nullah just before the waste enters sea water or rivers. This net blocks all the plastic and untreated waste and prevents it from entering the water bodies. These nets will also be cleaned by the authorities regularly.
This will be implemented in nullahs across Dahisar, Poisar river, SNDT, Oshiwara and Erla Pumping station.
