Mumbai Coastal Road: BMC Installs Final Girder Of Bow String Bridge Connecting BWSL

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) successfully installed a second and final large Bow Arch String Girder connecting the Mumbai Coastal Road and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) in the early hours of May 15, 2024. The work began at 3 am and was completed at 6.07 am.

It was challenging to install this second girder just 2.8 metres away from the first girder installed earlier. The work was carried out under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner & Administrator Bhushan Gagrani and Additional Municipal Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs) Dr. Amit Saini.

The girders installed were placed on the route from Nariman Point to Worli. Each girder weighs 2,500 metric tons and measures 143 meters in length, 31.7 meters in width, and 31 meters in height.

With both girders having been launched, waterproofing and concretising work is underway, following which asphalt roads will be made. The completion of the work will take one more month

After completing the remaining works, the next phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project will commence soon after the imposed code of conduct for the ongoing elections expires.

Present on this occasion were Managing Director of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ashwini Bhide, Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Dr. Ashwini Joshi, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Special Engineering) Chakradhar Kandalkar, Chief Engineer (Mumbai Coastal Road Project) Girish Nikam, Deputy Chief Engineer Mantaiah Swami, President of HCC Ajit Gulabchand, along with officials, engineers, other staff of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project.
