Roads leading to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport have developed potholes and damaged patches, raising concerns among commuters and residents over road safety and infrastructure preparedness. Several stretches connecting the airport area have reportedly been affected due to heavy monsoon rainfall, with uneven surfaces, potholes and loose gravel making travel difficult, especially for two-wheeler riders.
Commuters have expressed concern that roads expected to serve as important access routes to one of the region’s biggest infrastructure projects are struggling to withstand regular monsoon conditions. Similar complaints have emerged regarding key connecting roads in Navi Mumbai, where heavy rains have worsened existing road damage and caused inconvenience to motorists.
The poor condition of these roads has raised questions over the quality of construction and maintenance work ahead of the airport’s operations. Residents have pointed out that the airport connectivity network will witness a significant increase in vehicular movement once passenger services begin, making it essential for authorities to ensure safe and durable roads. Potholes filled with rainwater have become particularly dangerous, as they are difficult for motorists to spot and can lead to accidents, vehicle damage and traffic slowdowns.
Civic authorities have initiated road repair and maintenance measures across Navi Mumbai following monsoon-related damage. Officials have directed departments to identify pothole-prone stretches, carry out repairs and improve road safety measures. However, commuters have demanded permanent solutions instead of temporary patchwork, urging authorities to focus on stronger road construction and regular monitoring to prevent repeated damage during every monsoon season.
