The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday, May 27, 2021, informed the citizens that the trees in Mumbai can be cut only after seeking permission from the civic body. To seek the same, one can visit the app MCGM 24x7 and the website. The app is available on Android Google Play Store.

After downloading this app, one has to enter the OTP and click on the 'Go to service' option on the app. This is followed by obtaining online pruning permission which can be found under the option 'Tree Trimming'. The process can also be found under BMC's website where one can use the 'apply' option under 'For Citizen' and the 'Garden & Tree' options which have now been made available.

The decision to make this available was taken after a special meeting which was held with the municipal corporation's garden department. Additional Commissioner Ashwini Bhide directed the park department to take necessary action with regards to the pre-monsoon preparations. Moreover, BMC's Park Superintendent Jitendra Pardeshi has appealed to the department prune the trees before the monsoon with the permission of the BMC.

Every year, several trees in Mumbai fall due to the heavy rainfall. Citizens can report risky trees in their area and officials have been asked to check the same and take necessary steps before the monsoon. Permission for the same can be sought from the BMC and the same has been made available free of cost. Applications are being accepted by the divisional office of the Municipal Corporation.

Furthermore, if the pruning has to be done by a contractor appointed by the corporation, the prescribed fee should be submitted to the divisional office of the corporation as per the directives. Once the pruning is over, the contractor has to take the responsibility of disposing of the waste, and this has to be done in the next 7 days as well

The charges levied by the contractor for pruning the trees are based on the type and size of the tree and the related conditions, clarified the officials from the BMC.
