The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched the BMC Gen Z Fellowship Programme 2026, offering young graduates an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in urban governance and municipal administration.
The 12-month fellowship will select 50 candidates, who will work closely with senior civic officials and gain practical exposure to policy implementation, project monitoring, data analysis and administrative processes. Selected fellows will receive a monthly stipend of ₹61,500 throughout the fellowship.
Applications for the BMC Gen Z Fellowship 2026 opened on August 19, 2026, and eligible candidates can apply online until August 31, 2026.
The BMC Gen Z Fellowship is a year-long professional programme designed to connect young graduates with Mumbai's civic administration.
The initiative aims to bring fresh ideas, technological skills and new perspectives into the functioning of the municipal corporation. At the same time, fellows will get an opportunity to understand how one of India's largest urban local bodies plans, implements and monitors civic projects.
The programme has been designed partly along the lines of Maharashtra's Chief Minister Fellowship Programme and is being promoted under the vision of “Let's join hands for Viksit Mumbai.”

Fellows who successfully complete the programme will also receive a certificate of participation.
Selected candidates will be appointed on a contractual basis and will not be considered regular BMC employees.
Depending on their assignment, fellows may be attached to important civic offices, including those of the Municipal Commissioner, Additional Municipal Commissioners, Mayor, Standing Committee Chairman and senior officials heading different departments.

The fellowship is intended to provide practical experience that goes beyond academic learning while enabling BMC departments to benefit from the skills and perspectives of young professionals.
Candidates must fulfil the prescribed eligibility requirements to apply.
1. Educational qualification
Applicants must hold a graduate degree in any discipline. Candidates from different academic backgrounds can therefore apply, subject to meeting the other conditions.
2. Age limit
Applicants must be below 28 years of age at the time of application.
3. Language requirements
Proficiency in Marathi is mandatory. Candidates must be able to read, write and speak Marathi.
Applicants should also have adequate knowledge of Hindi and English.
4. Computer skills
Candidates are required to have working knowledge of computers and internet operations.

Candidates will be selected through a multi-stage process.
The selection procedure includes an online preliminary examination, followed by an interview for shortlisted candidates. Candidates selected at subsequent stages will also be required to undergo medical examination and police verification.
