With the increasing instances of cases of coronavirus, Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has asked private offices to call 50 per cent of the employees in order to avoid congestion.

Moreover, the civic body has also deployed five teams in every department in order to implement this rule. The teams are to monitor offices and are to take strict action against those violating the 50 per cent attendance rule. In addition, efforts are being made at various levels by the corporation to contain the spread of the disease. Emphasis is being given on COVID-19 tests and the vaccination drive as of now. Currently, vaccines are being given to citizens between the ages of 45 and 60 as well as senior citizens which is underway at 100 places across Mumbai.

According to reports, the civic body will soon start the vaccination process in two shifts from 7 am to 2 pm and 2 pm to 9 pm. Although the civic body has allowed vaccination centres to be run 24 hours, at the moment, the BMC centres shut down at 5 pm. Moreover, more than 9.70 lakh people have been vaccinated in the city, as per the records shared by the BMC.

On the other hand, after a gap of nearly 300 days, the general public was allowed to travel in the suburban railway system. However, the trains currently are permitted to ferry the general public in three-time slots: From the time of the start of the services till 7 am, from 12 noon to 4 pm, and from 9 pm till the time of the closure of services for the day. With the spike in COVID-19 cases, restrictions might also be imposed by the state government to curb the spread.
