After demolishing furniture shops and huts on the land located in front of Atharva College in Malad area, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has now decided to plant 10,000 trees on a 6.9-acre plot at this place.

Moreover, the civic body is also planning to set up a Vedic themed park based on Noida's 'Ved Van'. The land located opposite Atharva College on Marve Road was encroached and occupied by furniture shops and hutments for about 20 years.

The estimated cost of developing the theme park will be around INR 5 crore, as per reports.

In July, Mumbai Suburban Collector directed to hand over the land to BMC for garden development. After getting possession, the civic body demolished 63 illegal shops last month. However, eight shops that had proper documents of ownership would be offered an alternative place or financial compensation on the department level.

The site will be protected with barricades and a compound wall will be constructed soon. Besides this, 10,000 trees will be planted using Japanese Miyawaki technique and a theme park will be developed by the Horticulture Department.

The land is reserved for recreation/sports grounds. Local MP Gopal Shetty had suggested BMC to develop a place similar to the Vedic-theme park in Noida Sector 78, which was once a dumping ground.
