In order to implement the Hawker’s Policy in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had demanded objections and suggestions from the citizens to determine the hawkers and hawkers' zones, which have surpassed their due date.
Only 1700 people gave their objections and suggestions on the hawker zone issue. The BMC has started verifying these objections and suggestions and next week onwards, the civic body will start implementing it.
To implement the hawker policy, the corporation has made one hawker’s zone which can accommodate 22,000 hawkers. But now the civic body has decided to make space for 85,000 hawkers, for which the people were asked to register their suggestions and objections.
The deadline to register suggestions and objections ended on January 31, 2018, after which, the BMC extended the deadline for 15 days and likewise February 15, 2018, was the last date.
From January 31 to February 15, we received 1700 suggestions and objections through an email,” Nidhi Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner (Special).
