Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has provided many facilities for Mumbaikars. Meanwhile, it is learned that BMC has so far spent INR 10.99 crores for handling and disposal of dead bodies of coronavirus patients.

More than 11,000 bodies have been handled by the civic body in Mumbai. The BMC has started an allowance of INR 500 each as an incentive for the employees handling the bodies. The death toll was higher between March and August. At that time there was a fear among people, despite, civic body officials worked keeping their life at the stake. No safety was provided to the employees.

Later, the municipal administration started providing insurance cover to their employees along with an incentive for regular employees, contract and salaried employees of the corporation.

As many people died due to COVID since last year were cremated on behalf of the Municipal Corporation. In case of death of the patient, the staff has to do the work of arranging the corpse, wrapping it in a cover, tying the information badge on the corpse, transporting the corpse to the morgue etc. Municipal Corporation took a note of this and started incentive allowance for the officials involved in the work.
