BMC issues a WhatsApp number to solve the issue of potholes

Every year during monsoon, the roads disappear as the potholes are formed which results in the criticising of the civic body. But this year, BMC has put the issue on the top of their list and is looking to amend the mistakes made in the past.

Considering the difficulties faced by the people due to potholes during monsoon, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has released a WhatsApp number for 24 department offices. Along with this, the corporation has made a toll free number available to the citizens who don’t have a smartphone.

Vinod Chithore, Chief Road Engineer, said that if the citizens have any complaints regarding potholes then they should call the number – 1800 2212 93 (toll-free).

Every year during monsoon, BMC is criticised for the roads disappear which become uneven due to potholes. But this year, the civic body wants to avoid the same and has put the issue on the top of their list, with an aim to amend the mistakes made in the past. This year, BMC prioritised the issue of potholes and fixed them in three phases resulting into the decrease in number of potholes.

Although BMC has firmly repaired the roads and taken enough measures to ensure that the potholes do not pop up again, the civic body is just being cautious about it. BMC has also asked the citizens to ensure that whenever they see a pothole at any road, they must make an immediate call in order to fix the pothole instantly. The WhatsApp number has also been issued in the newspapers.

Municipal Corporation has launched a mobile app, MCGM, which is available for registering complaints of the potholes on the roads in the city and it can be downloaded from Play Store. Citizens can upload photos of potholes on the streets on this mobile application. Further, the citizens can know about the current status of the proceedings in regard to the complaint.
