The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) razed the unauthorised construction of Worli’s National Sports Club of India (NSCI) on Thursday. The demolition was carried out by the civic officials of G-South ward but the illegal construction within the club was not razed.

NSCI violated the rules and regulations which were set by the BMC. Last October, the deputy commissioner of the property department and the encroachment deputy commissioner jointly did a survey and submitted a report of illegal construction and misuse of land.

There was no provision for cooking non-veg food but they converted the canteen into a bar to provide non-veg food for the sportsmen. Along with this, NSCI gave subcontract to Cineyug Worldwide who is not related to sports but uses the club to host entertainment events, stated a report.

So, finally, according to the report, an action was taken by demolishing canteen cum bar. Notices were served but the civic body did not receive any replies, hence the G-South division's building and factory, encroachment department officials took action.

Along with this, it has been made known that the club, which is situated on a prime 18-acre sea-facing municipal plot in Worli, owes the BMC ₹61.7 crore in property tax. These dues have not been cleared for seven years.
