By early December, Mumbai will get its new disaster management centre which will be a replica of its disaster control room situated at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters in South Mumbai.
The location of this centre would be at BMC’s City Institute of Disaster Management in Parlem near the BEST colony. Post-2012 Mantralaya fire, the replica control room was envisioned. In case of an emergency or technical snag reported at the BMC headquarters, officials will be able to carry out rescue operation from the new control room.

Additional Municipal Commissioner I A Kundan said that it will be exactly like the existing disaster management control room where hotlines will be connected with all the ward offices and other agencies such as MMRDA and Railways. He added that it will be a parallel set up with a dedicated staff.
