After a long time, the demand for a separate crematorium for animals in Mumbai will soon become a reality. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has finally chosen a contractor to construct the two new Pipe Natural Gas (PNG) crematoriums. The two crematoriums will be introduced at Malad and Deonar at the cost of ₹17 crore.

Currently, the people in the city have been facing hassles to find a crematorium for the animals and there was a necessity of an exclusive crematorium as there are very few private known crematoriums for animals. Pet owners especially have faced a shortage of ambulances to carry their pets to hospitals or a private crematorium.

Two years ago, the municipal corporation had promised to provide the citizens with a separate crematorium, and now with the help of Tata Trust, they have begun the work to build a hospital for animals along with crematorium in Mahalaxmi. The crematorium would third of its kind after Malad and Deonar. Meanwhile, the trust will bear the cost of the crematorium.

According to the reports, the capacity of an incinerator at Malad will be 50 kg per hour, whereas the capacity of Deonar will be 500 kg per hour. Along with this, a 2,000 sq ft crematorium will be constructed in Malad and a 500 sqft one in Deonar.
