The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) challenged with dips in the revenue, is to not take up any fresh road projects and are to focus only on ongoing repair works this year.

The BMC had earlier planned to take up fresh road projects from the month of October, over a 289 km stretch, concrete as well as asphalt across the city of Mumbai. However, as per reports, the officials have stated that due to the immense strain on the finances due to the pandemic, and other expenses, the civic body is to focus on completing the ongoing repair work once the monsoon is over.

On August 20, a budget cut of ₹2,500 was approved by the BMC. The move was particularly hard on the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) as ₹500 crores was slashed from the financial aid that was promised to the undertaking. Moreover, ₹125 crores were allocated for the concretisation of roads.

On the other hand, as a consequence of heavy rainfall and consequent flooding, potholes have emerged on the Mumbai roads in several parts across the city. Several commuters have raised the issue using social media, however, the civic body has asserted that they have received complaints about only 500 potholes on its mobile application. The BMC, in response, had created a new road on the stretch of Sion-Dharavi Link Road to provide aid to the commuters.
