On Monday, October 25, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) considered a notice of motion which was raised by Javed Juneja, a Congress Corporator. He had opposed naming a junction at Kala Ghoda after former Israeli Prime Minister and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shimon Peres.

A notice of motion (NM) is a written application to the Court. The NM requests the Court to issue a ruling or order on a legal matter. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar accepted the notice of motion but declined to discuss the same, following which Juneja questioned the mayor's decision.

While addressing the media, Juneja said that the notice of motion came for discussion six months after it was moved as previously cancelled all the meetings called for NMs. Rather than discussing the proposal, she has deferred the decision. In the same meeting, the house accepted another proposal of naming a playground and cleared, which was moved by BJP corporator Harshita Narvekar.

For the unversed, in a general body meeting on December 18, 2020, the proposal of naming a junction of V B Gandhi Marg and Saibaba Lane as Shimon Peres Chowk was cleared. In February 2021, there was a board put up naming the junction after Peres.

It created a controversy with Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) corporators opposing the move. They alleged that the naming was done by violating all norms and without following the procedure laid down in the civic body policy. In February 2021, Congress's Juneja and SP's Rais Shaikh moved NMs to reopen the proposal of naming the junction so that Peres's name could be cancelled.

Juneja questioning the proposal, said that what contribution does a foreigner have in Mumbai or Maharashtra's history.
