BMC to take a decision soon on night curfew after Dec 20

On December 14, the BMC commissioner had stated that the civic body is against the idea of night curfew during the Christmas or the New Years’, however, the citizens should not create havoc as a result of it and force the civic authorities to impose it.

With Christmas and New Year just around the corner, party scenes have suddenly shot up across the city, hence BMC is now taking extra prevention measures to ensure the positivity rate of the coronavirus cases continues to fall even during festivities.

There have been talks of imposing a night curfew in the city ahead of New Year. In regards to this, BMC had stated that it will review the situation in nightclubs till December 20, and if nightclubs and pubs or bars continue to flout COVID-19 rules, night curfew will be imposed, yet again.

On Sunday night, December 13, BMC raided two restaurants and two-night clubs for flouting COVID-19 rules. The civic body issued show-cause notices to the club for violating the Epidemic Disease Act, 1897 as they were running till late hours.

This is in line with the drive BMC had announced in regards to conducting random inspections at nightclubs that are not following any safety measures. According to reports, a total fine of ₹43,200 was collected from all the four establishments.

The civic body officials fined 560 visitors who violated the coronavirus norms and did not wear masks. The BMC also distributed masks among them.

According to Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, there was a gross violation at Bombay Adda Pub in Bandra. Some 275 patrons were without masks past midnight. Bombay Adda was fined ₹30,000. Pritam Hotel in Dadar was raided at 1 am, and 120 patrons and staffers were found violating the norms. Some 90 people were fined at Rude Lounge in Malad, and another 90 were fined at Bhagwati Hotel in Kandivali.
