According to a latest report revealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday morning, August 8, the collective water level stock in all the seven lakes have reached to nearly 82 per cent.

As on 6 am this morning, the seven reservoirs supplying water to the city, is now at 81.44 per cent. The seven lakes have 11,78,751 million litre of water on June 28, against the full capacity, which is around 14,47,363 million litre.

It is pertinent to note that the development comes despite Mumbai has been receiving scanty rainfall in the last week, that is since the beginning of August. However, the water level has been dripping as compared to the previous year. This can be attributed to the delayed onset of monsoon.

Moreover, the civic officials have not yet withdrawn the 10% water cut. They say that owing to the ongoing dry spell, evaporation loss is likely to occur. And, due to the lack of rain the water level in dams could drop again.

Earlier, the BMC had stated that they will take a decision regarding water cut in the first week of August. But, the IMD has said dry spell for Mumbai is likely to continue this week.  he five-day forecast by IMD issued for August 6-10 said the city may record light to moderate rainfall.

Therefore, the civic body will monitor the developments in the catchment area lakes for another week and then decide.

Middle Vaitarna - 96.14 per cent
