During the monsoons, Mumbaikars will have to watch out for seven neap tide days, in order to avoid water-logging problems and accidents. These days will most likely be on June 7, July 7, August 19-20, September 17-18 and 19.

This is happening for the first time, that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has released a list of neap tide days. As per reports, there is not much difference between low and high tides and the discharge of stormwater into the sea is very slow. However, during high tide days and neap tide days can also lead to excessive flooding, which might cause trouble to Mumbaikars.

One of the BMC officials from the disaster management department told Hindustan Times,

Along with the high tide days, BMC has also circulated a list of neap tide days to the traffic police, fire brigade, and other agencies to help them be better prepared."

Last year’s deluge on August 29 brought the city to a red alert, analysing which BMC's civic officials have pointed out that it was a neap tide which caused heavy flooding in the city. On the same day, the city witnessed waterlogging at Kurla, Sion, and Matunga which brought the city to a halt, including the local train services on the Central Railway and selected services on Western Railway too.
