In a step closer towards the Digital India initiative, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to provide 714 schools in Mumbai with an Internet connection. The civic body will be providing Internet service to 579 primary schools and 135 secondary schools.

The initiative is expected to ease the day-to-day work for the schools and will contribute extensively in developing the communication between two schools.

The basic motive behind the initiative is to introduce co-operation amongst the teachers and students for conducting educational research together. The Internet connection has been brought to the schools with the co-operative efforts from BMC and MTNL.

More than four lakh students from primary as well as the secondary school are expected to be benefitted from the BMC program. The civic body has allotted Rs. 2,733 crore for Education in their upcoming budget.
