The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is yet to decide if they should scrap the garden maintenance tender worth INR 45 crores again or not.

Two months ago, the tender was scrapped as they received low bids. It was 44% below the estimated bids. The civic body is yet to decide if they should scrap the tender again since the bids they got are low again, with around 36% below the estimate.

The tender is about the maintenance of nearly 400 gardens in 24 administrative wards in Mumbai. The corporators worry that either the estimates are purposely wronged, or that the contractors will provide substandard quality work.

Opposition leader and Congress corporator Ravi Raja questioned BMC's tender and asked if BMC has set unnecessarily high rates. He further said that the garden is lying in poor condition since there is no daily maintenance. If the bids are low, it will impact the quality of work, because of which they will have to face angry citizens during the BMC elections.

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that the BMC's garden department is looking for plots from other BMC departments to create a more urban forest in Mumbai.
