On Monday, March 14, the Bombay High Court asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to respond on if there is a policy on food outlets and eateries operating without the needed license that ply through the means of food delivery companies, stated reports.

According to reports, the court was informed by the Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHAR), the petitioner that food delivery companies allegedly deliver food for illegal outlets to consumers.

Based on accounts, the plea claims that food delivery apps pick food from outlets that work from homes that do not adhere to fire safety guidelines. These are reportedly amongst the other violations of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) Act.

It has been reported that the division bench refused to pass a blanket judgement against food delivery providers. Thus, they asked the petitioners to utilize some of the unlicensed eateries as parties to the case.

The petitioner claimed that its members invested considerable money to operate their hospitality business. Adding that they acquired the requisite license adhering to the statutory rules regularly, cited reports.

The plea went on to claim that during the lockdown induced by the coronavirus, some unauthorized and illegal eating houses increased their business activities. Additionally, it claims that new illegal eating places were established across the city.

The association, therefore, filed a writ petition in court claiming that no action was taken against such outlets even though they wrote to the concerned authorities.
