Borivali becomes the worst affected locality in Mumbai with highest COVID19 cases

Data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), as of October 8, 2020, reveals that over 10 localities in Mumbai have more than 10,000 cases, and the city currently has a total of 30,674 active COVID19 cases.

Coronavirus cases in the city of Mumbai have been increasing at an exponential rate, and the state of Maharashtra is currently observing a lockdown until October 31, 2020. However, the government has allowed certain activities to resume under the unlock 5.0 guidelines, due to which people have started resuming work and businesses have resumed operations across the city of Mumbai. 

Data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), as of October 8, 2020, reveals that over 10 localities in Mumbai have more than 10,000 cases, and the city currently has a total of 30,674 active COVID19 cases. 

Out of all the 24 wards in Mumbai, Borivali (Ward R-Central) tops the chart with 11,687 cases, out of which 2625 cases are active and 399 deaths have been recorded. Ward R-Central continues to be the worst affected locality due to the spread of coronavirus infection. 

Besides having the highest number of cases, even the growth rate of the cases in Borivali is the highest and currently stands at 1.36 per cent. Even in terms of the doubling rate, Borivali has the lowest rate of 51 days. This is followed by wards R-South, H-West and T at 1.30 % per cent with a doubling rate of 54 days each. 

Observing the increasing number of cases the municipal corporation has sealed certain areas and buildings across Mumbai marking them as containment zones. A total of 979 out of the 9,863 buildings have been sealed in Borivali. Besides this, other areas like Andheri, Malad, Kandivali, Dadar, Grant Road, and Mulund are the most affected with coronavirus cases.

  • Borivali - 14711 (2625 active)
  • Andheri West - 13670 (2083 active)
  • Andheri East - 13108 (2052 active)
  • Malad - 13098 (1578 active)
  • Kandivali - 12088 (2111 active)
