On Sunday evening, a 61-year-old man who has been identified as Sundara Saw lost his life post a segment of a building collapsing in Mumbai’s Kalbadevi, stated reports.

Officials state that a segment of the building, number 5 in Khandraowadi in Dadi Sheth Agyari Lane in the Kalbadevi area, fell in the evening on Sunday. Later in the night, the whole building fell.

Whilst reports state that Shaw wasn’t living in the building, all its tenants were moved out before the building crashing. It is stated in accounts that Shaw was standing under the building when it fell.

According to the reports by the Times of India, Amin Patel the Congress MLA elaborated that a prominent tragedy was deflected since all the tenants were moved out before the building crashed. He added that authorities such as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Fire Brigade and police officials saw to it that the building was emptied. He further stated that the man who lost his life was claimed to be an angadia worker who happened to be standing close to the building.

Fire Brigade officials stated that a segment of the four-storey building fell and the whole building was emptied on late Sunday evening. This occurrence transpired at nearly 6 pm and later into the night, the whole building fell stated the officials.

From the debris, Shaw’s body was found post which he was taken to JJ Hospital where he was declared dead.

Accounts also highlight that the civic authority mentioned that the building was MHADA’s. Patel mentioned that MHADA wasn’t able to authorize money resulting in the dilapidated condition of the building. Whilst, tenants have been moved, they are presently residing at their relatives, adding that they will request MHADA to provide them with transit homes.
