CM Assures To Provide Extra 120 MLD For Thane To Resolve Water Woes

This decision was taken at a review meeting by the CM to discuss the water supply scheme in Thane district. During the meeting, Shinde also directed the MMRDA to release INR 336 crores for land acquisition for constructing a dam over Kalu river.

In order to augment water supply to Thane city, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assured to provide additional supply of 120 MLD water, reports stated.

Shinde on Saturday, July 16, announced that Thane city will be provided additional 50 MLD of water supply from Bhatsa and Barvi dam each. In addition, 20 MLD will be provided from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and 6.5 MLD will be given exclusively to Kopri, Wagle Estate and Diva areas.

At present, Thane city receives 485 MLD of water that will increase to over 600 MLD with the additional supply.

This decision was taken at a review meeting by the CM to discuss the water supply scheme in Thane district. During the meeting, Shinde also directed the MMRDA to release INR 336 crores for land acquisition for constructing a dam over Kalu river.

Instructions from the CM’s office to complete the repair work of all the channels providing water to Thane district have been made and a review of the repair work of Bhatsa, Nampada, Powale and Shai dams also have been made. Shinde also directed to speed up the work of these dams.

State Chief Secretary Manu Kumar Srivastava, Additional Chief Secretary Ashish Kumar Singh, Urban Development Department Additional Chief Secretary Bhushan Gagrani, MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner SVR Srinivas, Thane Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Sharma, Thane Collector Rajesh Narvekar, MIDC Chief Executive Officer Senior officials of various departments including P. Anbulgan, MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde, Ravindra Phatak were also present in this meeting.

Besides, the CM has instructed MIDC and MJP to take necessary action to prevent shortage of drinking water in Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation and Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) areas and the rest of the district besides TMC.
