Mumbaikars were in for a chilly morning on Sunday as the minimum temperature in the city dropped to a 18 degree Celcius. This has been been the coldest day for this winter as far as Mumbai is concerned.

The sudden dip in the temperature was not expected and took the people by surprise. According to India Meteorological Department’s (IMD), the minimum temperature recorded at Santacruz observatory was 0.6 degree below normal. The Colaba observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 19.5 degrees Celsius, which is a good 1.5 degrees below normal.

The other parts of the state also witnessed a decrease in temperature. It is also raining in some parts of the state. Solapur is one such area that has been getting rainfall in the last 24 hours.

In 2019, the lowest minimum temperature was 14.4 degrees Celsius and was observed on 28th December.

This sudden temperature drop may also result in people getting sick. The reason for the drop in the temperature is being attributed to cold winds from the north.

While IMD officials claims that they are not expecting any further sudden decrease in the temperature but it might be a good idea to take this bit of information with a pinch of salt. Their prediction has been a little off bull’s eye for the major part of the year and one should not be surprised if December is not any different.
