While the tally of coronavirus cases in Dharavi and Worli is decreasing, an increasing number of cases in the North Mumbai area has made the locality a new hotspot for viral infection. Further, this has raised the concerns at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and keeping this in mind, the police administration has decided to implement a strict lockdown in this area.

COVID-19 cases have been increasing rapidly in the western suburbs, especially in some parts of North Mumbai (Ward P-North). As a part of complete lockdown, all the activities and non-essential shops will remain closed and only essential services will be available. This move is aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus. Moreover, the implementation of regulations in sealed buildings will be closely monitored. Officials will take strict action against those who break the rules imposed by the corporation and those who do not comply with the rules of social distancing.

Between June 13 and 18, 2020, officials have identified 444 coronavirus patients in North Mumbai, of which 76 patients with COVID-19 infection were found in Dahisar East.

The concerns were discussed at a meeting which was held recently in the presence of Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Vinay Choubey, Mumbai Region Additional Commissioner of Police Dilip Sawant, Deputy Commissioner D. S. Swamy, Deputy Commissioner Dr Mohan Dahikar, Municipal Deputy Commissioner Vishwas Shankarwar, Assistant Commissioner Kabre and others.

Currently, Malad has seen an exponential increase in the cases, and therefore, strict lockdown at Appapada, Kokanipada in Malad East will continue, the municipal official clarified. The lockdown is also imposed in Kandivali's Poisar, Borivali's Kajupada and Dahisar's Ambawadi and Ketkipada. This will continue for one more week.

Additional units of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) have been deployed along with police personnel in areas under Circle 11 and 12 in North Mumbai.
