In a substantial development, Mumbai City Guardian Minister Aslam Sheikh has demanded that there should be two commissioners for Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

Speaking about the population of Mumbai, Sheikh has stated with the expansion of the Island city, it is necessary to have two commissioners for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). He further informed that he has made a demand regarding the same to the city development department.

Furthermore, he added, “The responsibility of providing civic amenities to the growing population lies with the municipal corporation of the city. However, as there is only one commissioner for the municipal corporation at present, the questions of the citizens have been long pending. Moreover, citizens living in the Mumbai suburbs have to come to the municipal headquarters at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus for various administrative work. In view of this inconvenience to the citizens, it is necessary to have two Municipal Commissioners for Mumbai city and the suburbs. At present, there are two District Collectors for Mumbai City and Suburbs. Against this background, the posts of two Commissioners should be created.”

Meanwhile, Aslam Sheikh's demand for two commissioners for Mumbai is highly reprehensible, under which the Congress' years-long conspiracy to divide Mumbai has been exposed once again, claimed BJP Mumbai in-charge and Kandivali East MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar.

On the other hand, the civic body, on January 8, conducted a second vaccine dry run at three jumbo centres in Mumbai, which include Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Cooper Hospital in Juhu and Rajawadi Hospital at Ghatkopar.

Twenty-five volunteers took part in the mock process of the COVID-19 vaccine dry. Suresh Kakani, Additional Municipal Commissioner said the centres have completed all the preparations related to vaccine dry run. He further added that the government had listed out only one institution for each corporation but the BMC has selected three centres for each region in the suburb – Eastern, western and the Mumbai city.
