The work has started at the BKC station in the Bandra-Kurla Complex grounds of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project. The station will be constructed by excavating 24 metres deep below road level. It will have three floors namely platform, concourse and service floor. The station will be built on a total of 4.8 hectares of land. BKC is the only underground station on the Bullet Train route. INR 3,680.97 crore will be spent for the construction work of this station.
The National High Speed Railway Corporation Limited (NACHRCL) has handed over 4.85 hectares of land in the Bandra-Kurla Complex to the contractor for construction. The contractor has sought about 3.2 hectares of land from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The station will have six platforms and the length of each platform will be approximately 415 metres. Bullet train of 16 coaches will remain standing. Metro and road connectivity will also be maintained at this station.
Approximately 4.8 hectares of land is required for the construction of BKC station. Furthermore, the manufacturing process has been simplified. The package also includes a cut and cover length of 467 metres and a ventilation shaft of 66 metres. This shaft-tunnel will also be used to take out the boring machine (retrieval shaft).
At present 559 labourers and supervisors are working day and night. Six thousand workers will be required daily in the next phase of the project. Apart from this, mist guns are being used to reduce dust.
