Ten districts in Maharashtra are contributing the most number of cases of the coronavirus disease to the state’s rising infection tally as it has been reporting record high infections and deaths.

Since the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic, daily new infections reported from the state have remained upwards of at least 40,000 cases from April 1. In this regard, the state cabinet held a review meeting on the current situation of COVID-19 in the state.

According to reports, Pune, Nagpur, Thane, Mumbai, Nashik, Chandrapur, Nagpur, Satara, Palghar and Solapur have the highest active coronavirus patients.

In April, a record 17 lakh new patients were diagnosed in the state. Of these, more than seven lakh patients have been found in these 10 districts.

The worst affected Pune and Mumbai have about 25 per cent of the total active cases in the state. These two districts had about 1.72 lakh cases, as of April 27. However, Nagpur and Thane had more active cases than Mumbai during the same period. It was followed by Nashik and Ahmednagar that had more than 25 thousand active cases.

Moreover, the positivity rate has been 25.38 per cent in the last seven days in Maharashtra. But in 18 districts of the state, the number of people affected by the disease is higher than the state average.

Palghar - 37.10 per cent, Buldhana 36.67 per cent, Nashik 36.24 per cent, Nagar 34.62 per cent, Osmanabad 34.55 per cent, Hingoli 34.12 per cent, Nagpur 32.65 per cent, Gadchiroli 32.13 per cent, Thane 31.02 per cent, Satara 30.83 per cent, Parbhani 30.28 per cent, Latur 28.47 per cent, Sindhudurg 28.32 per cent, Wardha 28.02 per cent, Pune 27.62 per cent, Raigad 27.22 per cent, Nanded 27.21 per cent and Beed 26.94 per cent.
